Cellares :: Cell Shuttle V2
Cellares is a world leader and innovator in the industrial scale cell therapy manufacturing arena. Cellares came back to Anvil Studios to leverage all of the learnings from the design and development of the Cell Shuttle R1, and create the Cell Shuttle R2. Due to the incredibly complex nature of the Cell Shuttle, and the ever-evolving ecosystem of components and accessories that interface with the Cell Shuttle, Cellares identified many work flows, touch points, and engineering challenges that necessitated design refinement from end to end. If the Cell Shuttle R1’s goal was to create an iconic and sci-fi looking instrument (mission accomplished), then the Cell Shuttle R2’s goal was to address and improve upon the list of elements in need of refinement.
Physical User Experience was at the top of the list now, having lived with the R1 prototype for 6 months. Sketching, CAD models, and pretty renderings only get you so far, but hands-on prototyping reveals the true nature of a design. Access and to the front “feedthrough” for cartridge placement and removal needed to be re-evaluated for height and single-person use cases. Screen locations, button placements, and panel access handles all were refined for better user interaction. The rear storage and refrigeration area was completely redesigned for new and improved workflows and internal assemblies. Power and pneumatic conduits were consolidated to one location for better installation and serviceability. In the end the R2 doesn’t look much different than its intergalactic looking predecessor, but its user experience and work flows are lightyears ahead, and that was the point.
